Palin Heading to North Carolina

When Sarah Palin went to Omaha last night, she said that she very much enjoyed her trip to the Heartland. Well, she must be enjoying her red state visit a lot, because, according to the ]Politicohttp://www.politico.com/news/stories/100 8/14304.html], she is heading there this week.

Aides to John McCain consider North Carolina a must-win state and expressed optimism last week about their chances here, but there are signs of concern: Vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin this week will make the Republican ticket's first visit to the state since June, and the first public appearance since a McCain speech at Wake Forest University during the primaries in May.

Don't get discouraged, there is still no sign that McCain will spend significant time or ad money. And since he is sending his ummm "running mate", it's obvious that he still does not take the threat serious enough. That's fine. Carolina Blue has always been one of my favorite colors.

The McCain campaigns Maginot Line?

Hopefully, she will be as about as effective.

Well, she went to Nebraska (none / 0)

Just because she "wanted to". So it makes perfect sense that she goes "Hmm, where would be a fun state to stump? Oh, NC!".

It's got nothing to do with PPP having Obama up by six:

Nope, nothing to do with that.

Wow, ``Must'' win and not ``Will Win'' (none / 0)

That pretty much gives it away.

Well North Carolina is beautiful. I would request to go there if I was her! It's at least as pretty as Nebraska.

From the Blue Ridge mountains to the Outer Banks to the deep dark woods of our Piedmont, North Carolina has Nebraska whipped when it comes to scenic beauty!

Don't discount the significance. (none / 0)

Just because she's the running mate doesn't mean that it's less significant that they're playing defense in a red state.  Palin's time is arguably more important than McCain's; she's the one who draws the big crowds, after all.

Well, she draws the rednecks (none / 0)

.. and those so blindly partisan that they refuse to accept anything hostile to their fantasy view. Like my right wing pal who's pretty opinionated on CBS's "agenda" to make Palin look bad, yet hasn't watched a single Couric/Palin interview.

On the bright side, those that still publicly support her would be unlikely to have considered the Dem option anyway. She's preaching to the choir. Let them continue to spend money rallying the base.

Re: Palin Heading to North Carolina (none / 0)

Think it's possible that Palin will end up antagonizing more voters than she sways.  While I don't doubt she does well in Western states, there's something about her manner which seems to put off people East of the Mississippi.  Can't say I know what that is, either, but her favorability numbers seem to be falling in states like NC faster than elsewhere.

Saw her on TV this morning in FL (none / 0)

They had nothing but women stacked behind her in the stands, strictly photo-op stuff...

A fairly tanned crew, but, strictly cacausian?

Not sure where she was, but I guess they couldn't find any Hispanic women to put in for the TV shot.

She DOES have that huge Hispanic following, doesn't she?

Re: Saw her on TV this morning in FL (2.00 / 1)

She is the prototypical suburban white church mom who s a little prettier and a little richer than the rest the rest of the moms and she makes sure they know their places. Of course she's also the one with the snottiest kids.

One of my favorite comedy bits of this season (2.00 / 1)

is on the Stephanie Miller Air America show.

When ever they mention Alaska's first dude, they have Stephanie bleat out:

TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the top of her lungs.

She is just a TV caricature come to life, isn't she?

Don't forget "BRAAAAADD!!" whenever they mention her (alleged) extramarital affair. Whether it's Sarah Palin ("Guyss and galss"), George W. Bush ("I like toast"), or State Representative Squeezy McFeelpants (Aaaaaaahhhhh...) Steph and the mooks deliver the snarkiest comedy and commentary on AM radio.

BTW...they're syndicated by the Jones Radio Network, not Air America. Jones also syndicates The Ed Schultz Show.

Re: One of my favorite comedy bits of this season (2.00 / 1)

I get them on Air America here in Seattle, didn't know she was syndicated and picked up by the Air America station here, thanks for the info.

We have Randi Rhodes, who I think is also Syndicated by someone one else, not part of Air America.

And, recently, we have Ron Reagan Jr, who I think is taking over for Rachael, now that she is on the TV machine....

Re: One of my favorite comedy bits of this season (none / 0)

At the risk of sounding like an insufferable radio geek (I know...too late), Randi is on Nova M now, as is Mike Malloy. Nova M harbors no fear of opinionated radio jocks, unlike AAR.

I think Ron Reagan is going to work out well on radio. He has a good radio voice, he's quick, he's learned, and he's interesting. Looking forward to the podcasts!

Re: Palin Heading to North Carolina (none / 0)

well... that should be good for a few more points for Obama then.

Seriously if they are trying to make NC the line in the sand I'm all for that shit. A VA win when holding PA guarantees an Obama Victory. He can lose all the other battleground states and still win with 272 with those two states... and they want to fight NC? heh NC is icing on the cake for Obama right now.

And that is (one of the many reasons) why McCain is losing, bad resource allocation.

Re: Palin Heading to North Carolina (none / 0)

"They expressed optimism last week about there chances."
That should say all that needs to be said. A couple of months ago, they said NC was a dead lock, and mocked anyone who said differently.
Now, they're back to battleground talk. They say the same thing about Ohio and Minnesota.
